Archive note

Public art in Martim Moniz.

Contemporary sources confirm that Plataforma CAFUKA carried out a project called Integração URB.12 at Praça do Martim Moniz and that artist Valdemar Dória participated in two separately numbered URB.12 interventions in 2012. What the surviving public record does not currently preserve is the exact day of each intervention, a complete participant list for each one, or the original Facebook photo albums. Those gaps are kept visible here.

The two interventions

One project.
Two passes through public space.

URB.12 / 01

First intervention

2012 · exact day unresolved

Documented: Valdemar Dória's exhibition history lists “URB.12 - 1ª Intervenção - Urban Art - Cafuka intervem em espaço público.” A contemporary Mercado de Fusão programme identifies the larger Integração URB.12 project at Martim Moniz, where CAFUKA took over platforms made from recycled materials, adding colour and new work.

Reconstruction: the intervention belongs to the first year of the redesigned Martim Moniz / Mercado de Fusão. The square reopened in June 2012, which gives the project a useful temporal anchor, but no source recovered so far proves that URB.12 #1 happened on opening day.

Second intervention

2012 · exact day unresolved

Documented: the same CV separately lists “URB.12 - 2ª Intervenção - Urban Art.” By 1 February 2013, Martim Moniz programming described large bamboo structures planted in concrete rings with an artistic intervention by Plataforma Cafuka, alongside warm suspended fabrics that created shade.

Strong inference: this early-2013 installation is likely evidence of the late URB.12 layer or its immediate continuation, but the surviving article does not call it “intervention #2.” A 2015 CAFUKA notice later described that year's work as its fifth consecutive intervention in Martim Moniz since 2012. Two actions in 2012 followed by 2013, 2014 and 2015 is consistent with that count.

Surviving installation trace

URB.11 precursor

Six artists intervene in Odivelas using recycled material. The project explicitly calls for drawings, photographs and video to document the full process.

URB.12 × 2

Valdemar Dória's record preserves two separately numbered interventions. Martim Moniz programming preserves the project name and its recycled-material platforms.

Work remains visible

CAFUKA-treated concrete rings, bamboo and suspended fabrics are described as part of the Mercado de Fusão environment.

Fifth intervention

CAFUKA calls Martim Moniz a laboratory for its socio-artistic research since 2012 and returns for a fifth consecutive intervention.

Confirmed in both numbered URB.12 entries

Valdemar Dória

Dória's own published exhibition history is the source that preserves URB.12 as two distinct 2012 interventions. A later CAFUKA-supplied biography identifies him as a founding member of the association.

Film credit

Film by
Kris Haamer

The surviving CAFUKA URB.12 film is credited to Kris Haamer. Its original detailed production credits have not yet been recovered.

CAFUKA URB12 HD survives as Vimeo video 55572166. Visit São Tomé also indexed the film in its Arts and Artists video catalogue, which means the piece escaped its original account and became part of the web's wider documentation of São Toméan art.

CAFUKA also appears in a later Haamer Ventures portfolio. The original call sheets and detailed film credits remain to be located.

Preserve the uncertainty too. It is part of the provenance.
